Monson, Massachusetts Tornado destruction
Jun 2nd, 2011 by CtCameraEye
At first light today, not even 12 hours after tornados ripped through Monson, Massachsetts I was at on the scene shooting video and doing live shots for work. I managed to get in a few still images of the unbelievable destruction that almost completely destroyed this town of about 10,000 people.
Here are several of the images that I captured throughout the day. This first one was taken from a ridge line above the town, with one house still standing, and the house next door, flipped upside down.
Some residents have nothing left but stairs to their front door to sit on.
Looking across town, the path of the tornado(s) clearly show it’s path as the tops of the hundreds of trees are sheared off.
Three teenagers were trapped in the basement of this house below with their parents, before they dug themselves out.
Neighbors hug each others after they realize they survived the night.
This church on Main Street, the iconic center of town lay in rubble as well as scores of other buildings througout town.
How many times have you seen an aluminum canoe wrapped around power lines?
