Rocky Hill Dog Park a success!
After countless hours of work by scores of individuals the Rocky Hill Dog Park will offically open Thursday July 29, 2010 at 6pm.
Here are a couple of pictures I took of the park that you can show your four legged friends to see what they will have a chance to play in.
Almost done!
Well, it has been fun to blog every “once in while” about the status of the Dog Park in Rocky Hill.
From the beginning video I produced with Sandi Kelly, to seeing the fences going up makes me feel good that my blog site, CtCameraEye has done a little to help bring this park to a reality.
For some quick stats, the blog page for the Dog Park was hit over 1200 times, and the video was watched over 400 times.
Congrats to the Town of Rocky Hill, and to all of the Committee Members of a fine job done for the residents of Rocky Hill.

Rocky Hill Dog Park Update April 4, 2010
Here is a short update from Sandi Kelly, the Dog Park Committee Chairman.
Ten bids were recieved for the fencing around the park. The low bidder is Gateway Fence & Guardrail out of Branford. They installed the fences for the South Windsor and Wethersfield Dog Parks.t will be a 5′ high PVC coated chain link fence which will look like the one in Wetherfield.
This will be presented to the Finance Committe on April 14th, and then the Town Council on April 19th. Once the bid is awarded we can start working with the fence company.
Rocky Hill Dog Park Update February 5, 2010
I just recieved an update on the progress of the Rocky Hill Dog Park from Sandi Kelly, the Dog Park Committee Chairman. Here is what she wants to pass along to everyone.
I want to bring you up to date and share some great news about the Rocky Hill Dog Park.
Since the committee first organized in June of 2008, with $0.00 on our balance sheet, we have worked nonstop at raising funds for the dog park. We’ve had big events (Pawsta Supper, Spring Fest at Elm Ridge, Crossin’ 4 Canines bike races) and smaller efforts (flower sales, tables at local stores, and the ever present donation cans at many supportive local businesses - don’t forget to drop a dollar in).
Our unofficial guess for what we needed was $50,000 with fencing the main expense. As we surpassed $26,000 at the end of 2009, we were relieved to think we’re half way there. Then, we received an estimate from a fence company it is (only) about $30,000! We got this news at our Jan. 20 meeting and we are ecstatic. In addition to the fencing we will need aprox. $5,000 in site work, water fountains, benches, etc.
We are so close.
We need to get in high gear selling fence sections ($200 for a 6 ft. section with personalized plaque), benches ($500 also with plaque), trees ($200), canine drinking fountains (2 @ $700). Please consider one of these items in honor of a wonderful pet you’ve owned, a family member, or to highlight your business. You want this dog park, you’ll use this dog park, be part of making it possible.
But right now, while you decide on what to put on your fence section plaque, can you send just $10.00 to add to the Dog Park fund? If everyone on this list sent a check for $10 that would be a great infusion of funds.
Checks should be made out to Town of Rocky Hill; 761 Old Main St.; Rocky Hill.
Thank you, and watch for our upcoming fund raisers:
- Second Annual Pawsta Supper, April 24 at St. James Church, Elm St., Rocky Hill
- Dog-Friendly Happy Hour on the patio at the Angry Olive, Silas Deane Hwy. Rocky Hill - TBD
- Crossin’ 4 Canines Cyclocross races Sept. 25, Elm Ridge Park, Elm St., Rocky Hill
And of course the table at school basketball games and at West Side, the donation cans around town, t-shirts, hats, and bandanas available at the Parks & Rec. Dept.

Woof Woof! Dog lovers! We need your help!
Rocky Hill Dog Park needs your help. We are in the process of raising money to start development of the park. Please check out our “Dog Park Store” by clicking on here: Rocky Hill Dog Park . Any purchases are certainly appreciated! Thank you, and please watch the video below to understand what we are trying to do.
The Rocky Hill Dog Park Committee is raising funds to establish a dog park. There are approximately 1100 licensed dogs in town. Target date: Spring/Summer 2009.
With leash laws and ever-increasing development, there is clearly a need for a large, safe area for our dogs to exercise and socialize. Several Connecticut towns have dog parks and many more towns are working to develop their own. With over 1100 licensed dogs in town, a group of local dog lovers is in the process of raising funds needed to build the town’s first dog park. The dog park will be a fenced area where dogs can run and socialize, off-leash, legally and safely. A separate area for small dogs will be included. Some of the park amenities will include benches, waste receptacles, dog litter bags, water stations and more….
Consider the benefits of a dog park:
ü Gives persons with limited mobility, or the elderly, the opportunity to allow their dogs to get exercise
ü Provides a safe, fenced-in area to let your dog run, socialize and play, unleashed ~ legally
ü An exercised dog makes a better next door neighbor
ü Enclosed area prevents off-leash dogs from running loose and infringing on the rights of others, such as children or those fearful of dogs
ü Socialized dogs are more adjusted to people and other dogs and are unlikely to be aggressive and dangerous
ü Promotes responsible pet ownership
ü Promotes enforcement of dog control laws such as licensing and regular rabies shots, making for safer, healthier neighborhoods
ü Great family activity
ü Provides an opportunity for dog owners to socialize, meet new friends with similar interest: dogs
ü Allows members of a community representing all walks of life to come meet, to learn and to talk. This bond between neighbors strengthens communities
Possible Location:
Elm Ridge Park
Hours:
Dawn to Dusk
